A delicate Cotes du Rhone, full of freshness and vibrant fruit from the limestone-laced soils of this cooler northern part of appellation. Gravity flow, natural winemaking and concrete aging add to its elegance.
Vigna Gianmate is a tiny plot at the top of the Basarin vineyard, widely considered one of the top crus in Barbaresco. In the local dialect, "Basarin" translates roughly to "warm place" - much like Côte-Rôtie. This is a sun-kissed Barbaresco, and one of the few wines that Giacosa ages partially in new barrique. It's a refined and powerful example of Nebbiolo at its best.
This Barbaresco is a beautiful study in the terroir of Giacosa Fratelli's home village of Neive and a beautiful counterpoint to the single vineyard Basarin "Gianmate." Bright and ethereal, it makes quiet, thoughtful conversation at the table while "Gianmate" finds the grand piano in the next room and fills the house with music.
