Over 50 years ago, viticulturist Luis Laborde created one of the world’s only double massal selection vineyards by taking cuttings from the Rhone valley and doing a second selection in their new home in the Uco Valley.
Aromas of cigar, leather, and smoked meat fill the nose with hints of toasty oak, forest floorand baking spice. Well-structured tannins support big fruit flavors of blackberry jam, black spiced cherries, ground black pepper and just a hint of rhubarb.
Pairs well with grilled or smoked meats such as beef, pork and lamb, and dishes prepared with mild cheese or wild mushrooms.
Aromas of wild blackberry, tobacco leaf, peppercorn and asphalt. It’s full-bodied with firm, tight tannins and fresh acidity. Structured and concentrated with a refreshingly cool, inky finish. Very fine tannins. Spicy clove and black pepper to the black fruit.James Suckling March 2021
The 2019 Syrah Laborde Double Select from La Consulta, Uco Valley was aged for 12 months in French barrels, 35% of them new. A dark purple in color, the attractive, liqueur-like aromas include ripe blackberry, oak and a touch of black pepper. In the mouth, it’s smooth and austere with a fleshy feel lent by the wood and a freshness packaged in the oak with a gentle, juicy flow and fruity finish. A flavorful, new world red.Vinous November 2021
