Tasting Notes/Food Pairing Suggestions
A well-structured, serious wine built for enjoying with food. It is quite floral with some toasty oak aromas. On the palate, it shows a beautiful balance of ripe apple flavors, mineral and some oak. The excellent, mouthwatering acidity provides great length and sophistication. This is not a flashy "oak-and-fruit-bomb" Chardonnay—this is Chardonnay with concentration, finesse and enough depth to hang with any chicken or fish dishes, soft cheeses, and particularly with shellfish and white sauces.About the Name/Label
Upon his purchase in 1955, Christophe-Jean Grandmougin’s father renamed the property Domaine Saint-Jacques, because the oldest portion of the property was known to be one of the many stops on the traditional pilgrimage route to St. Jacques de Compostelle in Spain. Sort of a "pit-stop for pilgrims", if you will. An artistic rendering of the winery/house also appears on the label. The historical meaning of the vineyard name "Marissou" is "ripens the best", and stems from of the verb "mûrir" (to ripen).
