Tasting Notes/Food Pairing Suggestions
Exquisite deep red color. Primary fruit aromas of black cherry and raspberry with a touch of gaminess. These aromas are mirrored on the palate. Very ripe, yet well-structured, this wine holds the middle ground between a "drink me now" Pinot and a wine that will certainly develop with a few years in the bottle. It is a classic match with duck, pork loin, and even spit-roasted Tuscan chicken. Would also do well with hors d’oeuvres like pâte de campagne, mushrooms in puff pastry, and mild goat cheeses.About the Name/Label
Upon his purchase in 1955, Christophe-Jean Grandmougin’s father renamed the property Domaine Saint-Jacques, because the oldest portion of the property was known to be one of the many stops on the traditional pilgrimage route to St. Jacques de Compostelle in Spain. Sort of a "pit-stop for pilgrims", if you will. An artistic rendering of the winery/house also appears on the label. . The historical meaning of the vineyard name "La Fosse" is "ravine", as the vineyard straddles two sides of a natural gully.
