World-class quality wines from Mexico? Si, por supuesto!
Alta California (Upper California) was formed in 1804 when the province of California, then a part of the Spanish colony of New Spain, was divided in two along the line separating the Franciscan missions in the north from the Dominican missions in the south. The southern part became the territory of Baja California.
The Napa Valley is part of what was the Alta California territory. However, Baja California had wine grapes planted first and the first offical winery there was bulit in 1888. The modern revolution in fine wine production has only happened in the region over the last 10 years. Affectionately called "Baja Napa" by the press, the wine growing region of Baja California consists of four separate valleys, and winemaking is centered around the Guadelupe Valley (1:45 minutes south of San Diego and 20 minutes inland from Ensenada).
We are proud to add two of the finest wineries in Mexico to our wine portfolio!
