Tasting Notes/Food Pairing Suggestions
Deep red color with aromas of ripe black currant, blackberry, anise and dark-roasted cocoa beans. This full-bodied wine is quite forward already and displays rich black currant and black cherry flavors along with a wonderful mix of mocha, licorice, earth and spice notes. It has great balance and complexity coupled with complete ripeness and fresh acidity. The ultra-fine tannins add to the layers of flavor and the long finish sends you back to the glass for another sip. A remarkable wine from a remarkable vintage - if only there were more to share! Pairs well with any veal or beef dish, lamb, pork loin or chops, chicken dishes made with mushrooms and medium-strong cheeses.About the Name/Label
The wine is named after John Lewelling, a pioneer winegrower and horticulturist who put down roots in St. Helena in 1864. At 138 years, it is one of the oldest continuously-owned family vineyards in the Napa Valley. John Lewelling is also the great-grandfather of Janice Lewelling Wight, Dave & Doug Wight’s Mom.
