Product Name: Rene-Emmanuel Coteaux de Galets '00
More than any complex winemaking philosophy, René-Emmanuel wines are a reflection of the vineyards they come from. Start with hillside vineyards laden with stones (galets), apply no irrigation or sprays, limit yields with a mid-summer green harvest, and pick the grapes at optimal maturity. Winemaking is done with minimal handling of the wines so as to preserve the purity of the grapes. The Coteaux des Galets is produced from a selection of Grenache and Syrah from their oldest hillside vineyards, and aged briefly in mostly older oak to enhance development and character of the grapes.

About the Name/Label
It is named after the grapegrowing/winemaking team of René Ours and Emmanuel Bouchard. The lavender image is integral to both their lives—wild lavender growing between René’s vineyards, and cultivated lavender that Emmanuel’s mother Nancy tends and harvests behind their home for making fine oils and perfumes. "Coteaux des Galets" denotes the "Hills of Stones" that the grapes come from, alluvial deposits formed millions of years ago that aid in the ripening of the grapes by retaining heat long into the cool Valreas summer nights. This exciting "Reserve" level red wine will be released in January of 2002. Here's a look at the label. More to come as this wine gets closer to being available in the U.S.
