John Gauntner is widely recognized as the leading non-Japanese saké expert in the world. A long time resident of Japan, he is fluent in Japanese and has written regular columns for the Japan Times, the Yomiyuri Shimbun, and Tokyo Metropolis magazine. John has published four books and currently published the monthly Saké World newsletter in English. Most importantly he takes us to the best restaurants in Tokyo when we visit him!
eSake was designed by our friend, saké logistics sensei and Buddha aficionado Mark Schumacher. This site is devoted to premium Japanese saké (nihonshu). They offer a large and growing collection of online resources, including reviews of several small family-run Japanese brewers, over 170 articles by saké expert John Gauntner, and links to online saké shops in the USA and elsewhere.
