2005 Susana Balbo Brioso Notable Press Summary
2005 Susana Balbo Brioso
91 Points
Wine & Spirits, June 2008
“Light in style, this malbec feels as refreshing as the cool winds off the Andes. Its pronounced herbal character mixes with sweet strawberry and violet aromas, the structure defined by crisp acidity. Enhance its beauty with venison in a cranberry sauce.”
2005 Susana Balbo Brioso
91 Points
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, June 2008
"Good deep ruby-red. Complex aromas of plum syrup, cherry, mocha, tobacco leaf and mint. Silky, pliant and quite dry, offering a smooth texture allied to firm supporting backbone. The enticing red fruit, mint and dusty mineral flavors convey a strong sense of soil. Finishes fine-grained and classically dry, with lingering aromatic persistence and very suave tannins. An enticing, scented blend."

Robert Parker Jr's "The Wine Advocate", December 2007
"The 2005 Brioso is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, and 5% Merlot aged for 14 months in 100% new French oak. Dark ruby-colored, it has an outstanding aromatic display of pain grille, clove, pencil lead, espresso, blackberry, and blackcurrant. Medium to full-bodied, it has gobs of sweet fruit, notes of licorice and chocolate, ripe tannins, and 5 - 7 years of aging potential. It should evolve in a manner of a top St. Julien and provide pleasure through 2030."
2000 Susana Balbo Brioso
90 Points
The Wine Advocate, June 2005
"A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 20% Malbec, and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2000 Brioso is creamy, spicy, plum and blackberry-scented. Intense blackberries, blueberries, plums, and black raspberries make up this impressive wine's charachter. Packed with flavor, this concentrated, oily-textured effort has a prolonged, ripe tannin-filled finish. It should be drunk over the next 6 years."

Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, February 2003
"This wine reveals excellent depth of fruit (mostly blackberries), road tar, and loads of ripe tannin."2000 Susana Balbo Brioso

Wine Spectator Magazine, October 2002
Winey, with currant, mineral and sanguine notes, and a dusting of cocoa powder on the meaty finish.1999 Susana Balbo Brioso
Bon Appetit Magazine: Our Favorite Wines in 2001, January 2002
OLÉ FOR REDS: Reds with a Spanish accent were muy caliente last year, especially the Tempranillo-based wines of central Spain, the towering Cabernet blends from Chile, and the stunning Malbecs and blends from Argentina. These are all areas to watch closely in the coming year.1999 Susana Balbo Brioso

Wine Spectator Magazine, January 2001
Serious, modern-style effort here, with dense black currant, cassis, blackberry and toast flavors all enveloped in a creamy, velvety texture. Finishes with substantial, though ripe, tannins. Needs to unwind just a bit.1999 Susana Balbo Brioso
Restaurant Wine (Issue #80-November/December 2000, Global Wine Issue)
"There are plenty of imported discoveries as well: 6 higher priced Argentinean reds (that will certainly alter your opinion of Argentina's ultimate potential)...**** "Excellent". FIRST RELEASE. Brioso, a Cabernet blend, is fleshy, full bodied, complex in flavor (ripe fruit, olive, toasted oak, cedar), and long on the finish. CS, CF, Malbec, PV. [2002-2005]
