FOR A NEW YEAR
Time doesn't stand still and neither does our portfolio! We're kicking off the year with some new brands, new wines, new sake, and even some new sizes.
Brand New Brands
Let us introduce you to Añoro Winery (pronounced ‘ahn-your-o'). In Spanish, it sometimes refers to the act of reminiscing about a special time in one's past, but to us it's the dream of creating something special for the future. Upon release this spring, you can chose among these three beauties from the high elevation, low yield vineyards of the Uco Valley.
Añoro Malbec 2006 – 100% Malbec, SRP $25. 90 points, Robert M. Parker, Jr.'s The Wine Advocate.
Añoro “El Regalo” Malbec 2006 – 90% Malbec, 10% Cabernet, SRP $45. Only 150 cases. 90+ points, Robert M. Parker, Jr.'s The Wine Advocate.
Añoro Chardonnay 2008 – 100% Chardonnay, SRP $25. 88 points, Tanzer's International Wine Cellar-- “One of a small handful of very good Argentine chardonnays I tasted this year.”
On the sake side, meet Konteki from one of Japan 's smallest sake breweries, Higashiyama is located in Fushimi, an area known best among sake brewers for the "Fushimi mizu" - the soft, pure water available from Japan's Eastern Mountains.
Higashiyama uses some of the highest quality water and sake rice in Japan.
The Yamada Nishiki rice, considered the pinnacle of premium sake rice, is grown by Masayasu Tanaka, a well-respected rice farmer famous for growing some of the best quality Yamada Nishiki. Truly a best of the best sake!
Konteki “Tears of Dawn” Daiginjo – Est. Spring '09 release, SRP TBD (~$35-$40)

Mendel “Finca Remota” 2006 Words can hardly do justice to this wine. Winemaker Roberto de la Mota took some of Argentina's most pristine, cool-district Malbec fruit from Mendel's recently acquired 60-year-old vineyard 120km south of Mendoza City (hence the name Finca Remota, or “Faraway Ranch”), let it hang 20 days longer than even their super grapes in Lujan de Cuyo, and made 4 barrels of liquid jewelry. SRP $115/bottle, sold in wooden 3 pack cases. 94 points, Robert M. Parker, Jr.'s The Wine Advocate.
mapema “pz” malbec 2007 This 100% Malbec comes from vines up to 80 years old which are located in the select primera zona , or what Pepe and Mariano call the “pz”. SRP $70, sold in wooden 6 pack cases. 90 points, Tanzer's International Wine Cellar.
Tikal Locura 2005 Ernesto Catena's latest creation translates to "Madness" and is the ultimate expression of Argentine winemaking. What is more representative than a bold red wine made from Argentina 's three emblematic grapes, each from the best growing region for these varietals. This blend of Malbec, Bonarda, and Torrontes combines the different vineyard profiles of the famous Uco Valley, Eastern Mendoza, and high altitude Salta into one remarkable, well-integrated wine. This is a magnum-only offering and each bottle will rest within an authentic Argentine pato , a leather cradle of sorts designed to hold the ball used in the game of Pato - the national sport of Argentina (a cross between polo and basketball). SRP $200. 94 points, Robert M. Parker, Jr.'s The Wine Advocate.
Tozai “Blossoms of Peace” Plum Wine Our first Plum Wine, or “Ume-shu”, will join our very popular Tozai sake family. Since plums are the symbol of peace in Japan and plums don't “flower” but “blossom”, we thought the name was quite appropriate. 720mls only, SRP $18.

Want something that will cut through the clutter this Valentine's Day? Wine drinkers are not only looking for something different but also seeking a great value, especially in this economy. Now is the time to offer them an alternative to traditional French bubbly or pricey Napa Cabs. Vine Connections is pleased to offer its new “Argentine Valentine” - two bottles of our most love-laden wines and a recipe for a stay-at-home asado (complete with empanadas and grilled provoleta!).
The Tikal Amorio 2007, described by Wine Spectator as having "attractive perfume," "silky texture," and "elegant personality," is essentially everything you want in a lover, isn't it? So go ahead and “Tikal” your sweetheart's fancy with this bold, racy red. 92 points, Robert M. Parker Jr.'s The Wine Advocate, 2008.
Our Reginato "Celestina" 2007
is named after proprietor José Reginato's beloved wife Celestina, which means (matchmaker in Spanish). This beautifully- colored sparkling Rosé of Malbec is made Metodo Tradicional (bottle-fermented), a French twist that kicks this unusual sparkling wine into the truly romantic. Try to find the “Love Knot” icon (the classic symbol of romance between two lovers) on the bottle! 89 points, Robert M. Parker Jr.'s The Wine Advocate, 2008.
And we've made it easier for you to sell this year. Our new “Enamorados” email template is designed to highlight these two very special wines in a convenient, consumer-friendly, and easy-to-use tool that will have customers shouting “I heart Malbec!” all the way to your door. VC is available to customize the template to include customer pricing, branding, and any other messaging.
Click here to download the template or ask your VC sales manager to send you the information. Salut a “cupido”!
