A fresh, mineral-driven Cabernet from a high elevation Andes vineyard in Cachapoal.
Beautiful dark ruby-red color with violet highlights. Outstanding fruit with a noseful of red berries, black cherry, black pepper, and hints of violets. Those elements come through on the palate with fresh black and red fruit revealing a full-bodied wine. Tannins are very silky and lush on the palate. The mid-palate is round and velvety with excellent acidity that enhances its liveliness and balance.
Pairs well with wild game, seared fish and chocolate.
The most popular wine from Clos des Fous is the 2012 Grillos Cantores Cabernet Sauvignon, an unoaked, showy, aromatic, herbal Cabernet Sauvignon from Cachapoal from grapes grown on limestone-rich, gravel soils. The nose has a touch of spices, cracked black peppercorns and a core of blackberries. The palate is soft yet refined with the typicity of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon, showing the mineral side of the chalky gravels. It comes through as a juicy, mineral Cabernet. The Wine Advocate September 2015
Saturated ruby. Smoke-accented aromas of dark berry compote, pipe tobacco and succulent herbs, with subtle mineral and floral qualities adding lift. Shows very good depth, energy and precision on the palate, offering silky cherry, blackberry and candied rose flavors that tighten up with air. Clings with very good tenacity on the smoky finish, which features supple tannins and building spiciness.Vinous June 2015
A fresh and clean Bordeaux-style blend with iron, berry and sand character. Full body, fine tannins and a savory finish. Real honest cab.James Suckling July 2015
