Over 50 years ago, viticulturist Luis Laborde created one of the world’s only double massal selection vineyards by taking cuttings from the Rhone valley and doing a second selection in their new home in the Uco Valley.
Aromas of cigar, leather, and smoked meat fill the nose with hints of toasty oak, forest floorand baking spice. Well-structured tannins support big fruit flavors of blackberry jam, black spiced cherries, ground black pepper and just a hint of rhubarb.
Pairs well with grilled or smoked meats such as beef, pork and lamb, and dishes prepared with mild cheese or wild mushrooms.
This has a lifted nose of ink, violet extract, blueberry tea, bark, lavender extract and loads of baking spices. Full body, lots of dark plum fruit, tangy acidity and a very fruity finish. Drink now.James Suckling April 2018
Good ruby-red. Aromas of black cherry, blackberry, licorice, bitter chocolate and loam convey the polite side of Syrah. Offers more energy and definition on the palate than the nose suggests, with good spicy lift contributing to the impression of intensity. Not a fat wine but the firm, dusty tannins are ripe and broad for the vintage. Finishes with noteworthy persistence.Vinous July 2018
