Over 50 years ago, viticulturist Luis Laborde created one of the world’s only double massal selection vineyards by taking cuttings from the Rhone valley and doing a second selection in their new home in the Uco Valley.
Aromas of cigar, leather, and smoked meat fill the nose with hints of toasty oak, forest floorand baking spice. Well-structured tannins support big fruit flavors of blackberry jam, black spiced cherries, ground black pepper and just a hint of rhubarb.
Pairs well with grilled or smoked meats such as beef, pork and lamb, and dishes prepared with mild cheese or wild mushrooms.
Spice, blackberry and tea aromas follow through a full body, layered texture and beautiful finish Shows bark, old vine character.James Suckling June 2017
Bright, dark red. Some violet lift to the aromas of blackberry, licorice pastille and smoky oak. Dense, creamy wine with a thick yet juicy middle palate. A clean and rather polite style of Syrah, with dark berry and spice flavors dominating; shows little in the way of animal character. Finishes with smooth, fine tannins that will not get in the way of enjoying this wine young.Vinous July 2017
The faintly leafy 2015 Laborde Double Select Syrah is produced from a close to 70-year-old vineyard in the lower part of La Consulta. It has contained ripeness, with a mixture of red and white fruit and nice spices. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and good acidity. The Wine Advocate December 2016
