Over 50 years ago, viticulturist Luis Laborde created one of the world’s only double massal selection vineyards by taking cuttings from the Rhone valley and doing a second selection in their new home in the Uco Valley.
Aromas of cigar, leather, and smoked meat fill the nose with hints of toasty oak, forest floorand baking spice. Well-structured tannins support big fruit flavors of blackberry jam, black spiced cherries, ground black pepper and just a hint of rhubarb.
Pairs well with grilled or smoked meats such as beef, pork and lamb, and dishes prepared with mild cheese or wild mushrooms.
Shows spice, dried meat, and earth character as well as flowers. Full body, firm tannins and a long and flavorful finish.James Suckling May 2015
The grapes were harvested at two different points of maturity, one bringing the spice and the other bringing the meat. The nose is ripe and quite heady, with aromas of plums and a lactic touch. The palate is medium-bodied, with some abundant, fine-grained, slightly dusty tannins. The Wine Advocate Aug 2015
Aromas of plum, jammy blackberry and chocolaty oak, complicated by a touch of black olive and lifted by a violet note. Not a meaty or gamey style of Syrah, but the savory, nicely concentrated black fruit flavors are intense and dry. Tannins are firm but rather suave, with no dry edges. There's no easy sweetness here but this wine is built for a graceful evolution in bottle. An excellent Syrah value.Vinous Mar 2016
