‘Enjoy the simpler times’ in La Consulta, Uco Valley with the Pizzella family and their rich Malbec full of dark fruit and spice.
A beautiful red and purple color with aromas of black cherries, dark fruits, dark chocolate and baker’s spice. On the palate, the wine shows dense, dark berry and plum flavors along with hints of sandalwood and spice, and even a hint of violets in the finish. This is a full-bodied and well-structured wine that is incredibly full of life and born to be enjoyed with food and friends.
It goes great with many foods, especially meat and barbeque. Unique recipe ideas include: Grilled Polenta with Wild Mushroom Ragout, Grilled Quail with Quinoa, Currant and Pine Nut Pilaf, or Wild Boar, Sage and Dried Cherry Risotto.
The 2014 Malbec Pizzella Vineyard is from Altamira. The vineyard was originally 17 hectares and the owner planted an additional 12 (and is planting yet more), so there is room to grow. This is the most harmonious, elegant, and at the same time backward, of the three single-vineyard Malbecs. Not as showy as the others in the palate either as the tannins are austere and the chalky minerality sticks to your teeth. The differences between the three Malbecs is clear as they each reflect where the grapes grow. The riper, warmer one from Ugarteche, the fresher, higher acidity wine from Tupungato and the one with more depth from here (Altamira). Superb value! The Wine Advocate August 2015
Bright, dark red. Musky dark berries, plum, smoky oak and spices on the nose; smells ripe and dark. Rich and sweet in the mouth, showing lovely pliancy and texture and even a chocolaty ripeness for the year. Nothing off-vintage about this juicy wine. This longest of these 2014s, finishing with dusty tannins and a touch of herbs.Vinous March 2016
